Spring School 2026

On April 8 and 9, 2026, our Doctoral programme in Sustainable Chemistry has organised an interesting Spring School, entitled Smart Sustainable Systems in Chemistry (SSSC 2026). During the first day, PhD students had the chance to follow two interesting lessons, given by Prof. Alessandro Ulrici and Prof. Paolo Olivieri. These three hours focused on the synergy between experimental design and data processing in the "creation" of smarter chemical systems.
Moreover, in the afternoon, with the support of Dr. Emmanuel Cruz Muñoz and Prof. Heiko Lange, the students had the opportunity to work in groups during the hands-on session.
During this session, each group had a different dataset. Using the notions given in the morning and the MatLab software, each group had to prepare a presentation, trying to extrapolate the highest number of information from the dataset itself and its analysis using PCA (Principal component analysis). The next day, each group had to present their work and, after this, Prof. Lange and Dr. Cruz Muñoz had to assign the Scientific Excellence Prize to the best group.
We are very proud to share that Beatrice's group won the Scientific Excellence Prize, ex equo with Jodi's group. Their datasets were focusing on red wines from Piedmont and olive oils from all over Italy, respectively, and they managed, together with their group mates, to efficiently use the PCA technique to analyse these huge amounts of data.
Well done guys!
